COMMUNITY AWARENESS: ANITA TILLMAN OF TILLMAN CONSULTING GROUP

Anita Tillman, President and CEO of the Tillman Consulting Group, is making a positive impact on the lives of young students in the schools and communities of Baton Rouge, LA. Tillman, an accomplished personal and professional developer, has worked in the consulting business for over 14 years in the political and entertainment realms. Her diverse working history ranges from the campaign manager for House of Representatives elect to the Executive Assistant for No Limit Entertainment. Tillman, a Electrical Engineering graduate of Southern University, has taken her knowledge and skills to the young people in her community to educate, motivate and inspire them for greatness.

Anita Tillman is a board member of the Capital City Coalition, in which her and the board members are charged the with mission to uplift, impact and empower the youth by providing programs and services such as mentoring. Last year, Tillman helped organized over 10 events geared to motivate and educate the youth of Baton Rouge, LA. In 2009, she impacted the lives of over 1000 young people; organizing events geared towards career development, political education, and college preparedness.

In June 2009, Tillman conducted a Job Readiness Summer Program for students interested in obtaining summer employment. In the same month, she also provided public speaking and etiquette training for 300 students for the East Baton Rouge Education for Homeless Youth Summer Program. On June 24, 2009, Tillman organized the 1st annual Kids Day at the Capital with Regina Barrow. This event was held at the Louisiana State Capital which hosted over 400 kids. The youth participated in the opening of the legislative session for the day, toured the capital, and held a mock committee meeting. In Spring 2009, she returned to her alma mater as a guest speaker, campus mentor, and career coach for Southern University’s Career Services program.

Tillman’s outreach intivitives for 2010 are already in the works. She plans to continue to visit 4 target schools in Baton Rouge and facilitate break-out groups for “Real Talk” sessions. She will also organize the 2nd Annual Kids’ Day at the Capital, conduct another job readiness workshops with various summer programs and continue the partnership with the education for homeless youth program. This year she will host the 2nd Annual “Who’s Who in the Bayou.” This event was designed to provide a networking environment for all Black elected officials in the state of Louisiana during the week of the Bayou Classic in New Orleans. Proceeds from the event will go to scholarship funds to benefit students at Southern and Grambling State University.

Anita Tillman’s initiatives are bridging the gaps between the corporate and the adolescent world in the urban communities of Baton Rouge, LA. Her efforts will continue to positively impact children in high risk neighborhoods and schools each year. She explains, “Motivating and encouraging kids is my life’s work. I’m living my dreams. Though very demanding and sometimes emotionally draining, the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of the next generation is rewarding beyond measure.”
